TEMPERATURES January was quite mild, in fact, one of the warmest on record. We had no Minimum Temperatures that even reached freezing this month as the low was only 35.5°. Though 16 days did manage to fall to ≤40°, Mins stayed above 40° from the 9th-17th. On the Maximum side, one day did manage to just reach 60° and 16 total days were ≥50°. TEMPERATURES Average Temperatures were fairly steady throughout the month with a difference between the Maximum and Minimum of only 8.2°. The Average Max/Min/Mean Temperatures December 1st-15th vs. 16th-31st: 44.7°/36.6°/40.6° vs. 43.6°/35.2°/39.4°. There was no unusual warmth or cold – the month only featured 5 days reaching Maxima ≥50° and most of those just barely, while Minima reached ≤32° on 9 days, including 7 in a row from 20th-26th. The Solar Eclipse and the Temperature

Now that the great U.S. Solar Eclipse has passed through, it was interesting to see the temperature change during the event. Under fully clear skies, the eclipse began around 9:05 A.M. in Happy Valley, Oregon. The temperature on my Davis Vantage Pro2 (VP2) station stopped its typical morning rise and began leveling off at around 9:15 A.M., peaked at 66.5°F just before 10:00 A.M., then began dropping.
