HAPPY VALLEY, OREGON, WEATHER: JUNE 2018
TEMPERATURES
It was a fight between warm and cool air throughout the month, with maximum temperatures ranging from the mid-50s to the low 90s, a difference of 36.5°. The largest day-to-day difference was from the 20th to 21st when the monthly maximum of 92.6° was followed by a maximum of only 69.9°, a difference of 22.7°. Minimum temperatures, as usual, were not as variable, ranging from the mid-40s to the low-60s, a difference of just 17.4°. The date with the largest diurnal range (36.4°) was the 24th (90.1°/53.7°), the least was on the 10th with just 8.7° (56.1°/47.4°). The minimum of 62.2° on the 20th was the first ≥60° reading of the year.
PRECIPITATION
Though monthly precipitation was below normal, five days with thunder were observed, an unusual occurrence for June, as several Cascade storms were able to move westward to the local area, one bringing pea-size hail on the 9th. The month began with no measurable rain over the first 7 days, while the final 13 days also had no recorded rain. Following a much drier-than-normal May 2018, this month’s drier than normal amount brings an early fire danger to the area.

Great report Jeff. Thanks for your timely post. Beautiful wispy cirrus clouds for your monthly feature photo. We have cirrus clouds here too but rarely do they ever come out looking like those classic images. I only just started inputting my daily data into my excel spreadsheet last night. I finally got it back from Lowell in VA, who had been on vacation . Also there was a miscommunication of emails, I didn’t get his when he first sent the file back on June 22, the date of your cirrus clouds picture. Hope your fire danger is held to a min, southern OR and Northern CA have been hit hard the past few weeks. I heard that sections of I-5 were closed due to the fires. Stay cool, dry and safe!
