HAPPY VALLEY, OREGON WEATHER: NOVEMBER 2018
TEMPERATURES
It was a fairly typical November as temperatures gradually declined through the month – the warmest air occurring at the very beginning, the coolest near the end. Both the average Maximum and Minimum Temperatures were just slightly above the monthly Normals. Here in Happy Valley, only 3 days managed to reach Maximum Temperatures ≥60°, and all of those just barely, with 11 other days remaining ≤50°. For Minimum Temperatures, 8 days fell to ≤40°, one of these reaching to just above freezing on the 25th during the season’s first heavy frost at this location. The diurnal range for the entire month was just 10.1°, the greatest daily range being 16.1° on the 16th, the least only 4.1° on a rainy Thanksgiving Day (22nd).
PRECIPITATION
The month started with 6 days of rain then, as happened in October, an unusual stretch of dry weather set in. From the 7th-20th, only 0.04″ of rain fell (all on the 14th). Considering that November, on average, is the 2nd-wettest month of the year in the area, this makes such a dry period even more unusual. However, from the 21st-30th, 3.60″ (76% of the month’s rain) fell as the only day without measurable rain was the 25th.
≥0.25″: 7
≥0.50″: 5
≥1.00″: 0
MISCELLANEOUS
Very high barometric pressure for this time of year occurred, especially through the 19th, with only a few hours on the 4th falling below 30.00″. However, from the evening of the 26th through month’s end, the barometer failed to rise above 29.85″. November brought 8 Clear, 11 Partly Cloudy, and 11 Cloudy days; 20 days had Fog, 4 of these being Heavy (≤¼ mile visibility). The average wind speed was 0.5 MPH and the Maximum Gust reached 15 MPH (22nd).
