TEMPERATURES
August Average Temperatures were about 1.5° above the Normal in the area for both the Maximum and Minimum Temperatures. As has been the case this summer, there were no extended periods of hot weather as just 3 days even made it to ≥90° this month, the highest being the 95.8° on the 15th, the second-warmest reading of the year, exceeded only by the 96.0° on July 27th. These 3 days of ≥90° brought the yearly total to 10 (including 1 each in May and June, and 5 in July). This month, just 8 days made it to ≥85°. The coolest Maximum Temperature period came during the final 10 days when the highest temperature only reached 79.9°, averaging 76.6° during this span of beautiful weather with only clear skies from the 23rd-29th. This was also the period with the coolest Minimum Temperatures, averaging 53.4° and bringing a low of 47.8° on the 30th, tying the 13th for the month’s coolest temperature. The Maximum Diurnal Range was 38.0° on the 15th (95.8°/57.8°) and the Minimum was the 12.5° on the 6th (67.5°/55.0°).

This month’s rainfall total was below Normal for this location, totaling 0.36″, the Normal being 0.82″ according to Oregon State University’s PRISM Climate Mapping System. There were just 2 days with measurable rain, the maximum daily amount being 0.25″on the 6th, with the other 0.11″ on the 21st. Trace amounts were recorded on 3 other days.
