Nary a drop of measurable rain has fallen at McNary Airport, Salem, Oregon, since June 11, 2018. August 29th marked the 79th consecutive day without measurable rain, tying the record from 1967. With no rain expected today (August 30th) a new record of 80 days is likely to result. When dating back to April 30th, a total of only 0.77″ has fallen over this 122-day period (1/3 of the year!), an incredibly parched time, even for this area that normally has fairly dry summers (the June-August 30-year average for the period 1981-2010 is 2.21″). With only a 20% chance of showers predicted for today, and no rain in the 10-day forecast, the old record will likely get blown out of the water.
