HAPPY VALLEY, OREGON WEATHER: SEPTEMBER 2022
TEMPERATURES
September 2022 was record-warm in the Portland area; the three official Portland weather stations had Mean Temperature Departures ranging from +2.9° to +4.1°. Here in Happy Valley, the Average Maximum/Minimum/Mean Temperatures were 75.9°/55.6°/65.8°. The warmest period was, as usual, during the beginning of the month but Max. Temperatures had several similar peaks later in the month until cooling significantly at month’s end. The Max. Temp. reached 84.9° on the 10th but a half dozen other days were within 2° of this Max., including on the 25th & 26th when it reached 83.1° and 83.8° this late in the month. The lack of rain certainly assisted in keeping the warmer-than-normal weather hanging on.
Minimum Temperatures were as variable as Max. Temps were this month. Most Mins ranged through the 50s but (only) 3 days fell to ≤50°, bottoming out at 48.7° on the 23rd while 4 days managed to remain ≥60°, all in the first half of the month. There was a rapid shift in Min. Temps., soaring from 49.2° on the 8th to 70.2° on the 10th, the latter being the warmest September Min. Temp. ever observed at this location.
The Average Monthly Diurnal Range was 20.2°; the Maximum was 32.3° on the 6th (84.7°/52.4°), the least was just 8.4° on the 29th (64.6°/56.2°), the day with the greatest rainfall of the month.
PRECIPITATION
It was a very dry September. Through the first 27 days, only 0.06″ of rain was recorded. The first fairly significant rain finally began late on the 27th, continuing off-and-on until midday on the 29th, totaling 0.30″, and bringing the Maximum Rain Rate of 0.47″/Hour on the 29th. The September precipitation total of 0.36″ was just 22% of the month’s Normal of 1.64″ for this location.

Relative Humidity: Maximum/Minimum Averages were 88%/48%, having a Daily Maximum of 97% on the 29th; Daily Minimum of 19% on the 9th.
Dew Point: Averages were a Maximum/Minimum of 60°/48°, with a Daily Maximum of 69° on the 2nd, Daily Minimum of 34° on the 9th.
Wind: The Daily Average Speed was 0.9 MPH from the N, and the highest Daily Average was 3.5 MPH from the N on the 9th; the Daily Average Gust was 10.7 MPH and the Highest Gust reached 21 MPH from the NNE on the 9th.
