TEMPERATURES
Overall, August 2021 Average Temperatures were 1°-2° above the Normal in the area for both the Maximum and Minimum Temperatures. The most extended period of hot weather occurred from 11th-15th as each day made it to ≥90°, the highest being the 99.6° on the 12th, the 4th day this year to reach 100° (when rounding), including the 3 days in June. The 7 total days of ≥90° this month brought the yearly total to 16 (including 7 in June, and 2 in July). This month, 11 days made it to ≥85°. The coolest Maximum Temperature period came during the 17th-23rd when it stayed ≤80°, with the coolest Max. being the chilly 64.4° on the 22nd, the coolest August Max. Temp. since this station was established in May 2014. There were 7 Max. Temps. that remained ≤70° this month.
The final 9 days of the month brought the coolest Minimum Temperatures, averaging 52.0° for this period and sinking to a low of 46.9° on the 23rd, the coolest August temperature reported at this location since 2014. Overall, there were 12 days ≤55°, 4 of which reached ≤50°.
Splitting the month in two, the following Max/Min/Mean Average Temperatures were observed:
1st-16th, 87.7°/61.0°/74.3°;
17th-31st, 74.1°/53.3°/63.7°.
The month’s Maximum Diurnal Range was 34.5° on the 24th (83.7°/49.2°) and the Minimum was the 11.7° on the 21st (68.7°/57.0°).
PRECIPITATION
It was another very dry month with just 0.16″ falling, only 27.6% of the monthly Normal of 0.58″ (the Normal according to NCEI’s 1991-2020 period for this location). There were just 4 days with measurable rain, the maximum daily amount being 0.10″ on the 21st (also the date with the Maximum Rain Rate of 0.33″/hour). With a June total of 1.48″ and a Trace in July, this brings the 3-month Meteorological Summer (June-August) total to 1.64″ or 45.9% of this Normal period amount of 3.57″. The 6-month precipitation total from March 1-August 31, 2021 is just 6.55″, 39.3% of the Normal of 16.68″ for this time period.

Average Maximum/Minimum readings were 30.05″/29.93″, with the Highest Daily Value of 30.16” on the 18th, the Lowest Daily Reading of 29.81” on the 16th.
Relative Humidity:
Maximum/Minimum Averages were 92%/48%, having a Daily Maximum of 97% on the 21st, Daily Minimum of 28% on the 24th.
Dew Point:
Averages were a Maximum/Minimum of 63°/53°, with a Daily Maximum of 72° on the 12th-14th, Daily Minimum of 45° on the 23rd.
Wind:
Daily Average Speed was 0.7 MPH, with the Average Gust being 10.2 MPH and the highest gust reaching just 14 MPH from the N on the 28th and SSW on the 7th.
