TEMPERATURES

This February averaged almost exactly Normal for both the Maximum and Minimum Temperatures. The first half of the month had Maximums averaging 5.6° cooler than the second half but the Minimums were nearly identical between the two halves. Splitting the month in two, here are the Max/Min/Mean Temperatures: 1st-15th  47.4°/37.9°/42.6°, 16th-29th  53.0°/37.1°/45.1°. Only 3 days managed to reach the freezing mark, the month’s lowest falling to just 30.5° on the 4th. For Maximums, 8 days reached ≥55° with one of these topping out for the month’s highest reading at 60.1° on the 27th. The greatest daily range was 23.6° on the 7th (60.1°/36.5°), the least 3.8° on the 15th (45.0°/41.2°).

PRECIPITATION

It was another drier-than-usual month as only 2.58″ of liquid precipitation was recorded, just 44.6% of the Normal of 5.78″ for this location. Though it was drier than normal, there were no extended dry periods as the longest stretch without measurable precipitation was just 5 days (18th-22nd). The month recorded 16 days with measurable precipitation, with the greatest single-day total being 0.70″, the only daily amount ≥0.50″; in other words, many days with smaller amounts of rain.

A minor snowfall occurred on the third morning of the month, as 0.3″ whitened the ground, a nice sight to awaken to. The season total is now at 1.9″.

Two hail events were observed in the early afternoon on Leap Day. The first round brought a mix of sleet and graupel, continuing for 10 minutes (from 1325-1335 Hrs.), whitening the ground; the second round brought a two-minute period of very small hail.

Sky Cover: December brought 6 Clear, 10 Partly Cloudy, and 13 Cloudy days.

Barometric Pressure ranged from a maximum of 30.65″ (24th) to a Minimum of 29.96″ (7th). The pressure stayed unusually high all month, only dipping below 30.00” for a few hours on the 7th and about 1 hour on the 23rd. 

Relative Humidity peaked at 99% (16th+) and reached a Minimum of 43% (19th).

Dew Point went from 54° (6th) to 27° (19th & 20th).

Wind averaged 0.4 MPH and the Maximum Gust reached 20 MPH from WNW (23rd).
