HAPPY VALLEY, OREGON WEATHER: MARCH 2019
TEMPERATURES
Though winter took awhile to arrive, the cold weather that finally came in February continued into the first half of this month. Overall, temperatures this March averaged slightly below normal. Average Maximum Temperatures were almost exactly normal but were balanced by Average Minimums of nearly 3° below normal, as reported at official weather stations at Portland Airport and downtown Portland. Here in Happy Valley, the running Average Minimum Temperature remained below 32° through the first 14 days of the month. After not having recorded a March Minimum Temperature ≤32° since this station was established in May 2014, this month had 8 such days, including six consecutively from 1st-6th. The first 50° reading didn’t occur until the 11th soon after which it finally began to warm up. There was no sub-50° Maximum reading after the 12th. There wasn’t a Minimum Temperature remaining above 40° until the 17th. Splitting the month into two, the following Max/Min/Mean Averages occurred: 1st-15th: 46.9°/32.7°/39.8°; 16th-31st: 62.8°/43.7°/53.2°, nearly a 16° swing on the Maximums. In fact, the first 10 days were mid-Winter-like with Max/Min/Mean Averages of 42.3°/30.6°/36.4°.
PRECIPITATION
It was quite a dry month with less than half the Normal amount falling throughout the area. Though there were 13 total days of precipitation here in Happy Valley, only 1 day recorded a fall >0.50″, and that just barely. There were several dry streaks scattered through the month, the longest being the 7-day period 14th-20th. Snowfall totaled 3.3″ this month, with 2 days having ≥1.0″. Each of the last 3 months of March have recorded measurable snowfall but 2019 was the snowiest March since records began at this location in May 2014, and the first with more than 0.2″. The 2018-2019 Snow Season totaled 11.2″ (just below the 11.5″ recorded only last season), with 5 days of snowfall ≥1.0″, and 11 days ≥0.1″.

I love your bunny tail cloud featured pic. Just in time for Easter! We are carrying many of the same stats in our summaries, particularly high/low temperatures and precipitation amount frequencies. Sure wish more would post their stats here on the blog.
I love to see these stats for various locations! Wishing I could devote more time to this and my “Maryland Climate & Weather” blogs as I would post more often. Maybe when I eventually retire?
