HAPPY VALLEY, OREGON WEATHER: FEBRUARY 2022
TEMPERATURES
February 2022’s area Average Temperatures were slightly below Normal, with the greater departures being with Average Minimum Temperatures. The month was a topsy-turvy one compared to most Februaries as the first half was quite a bit warmer than the second half. Maximum Temperatures were cool the first two days but then hovered around 50° through the 10th, followed by 3 days ≥60°, peaking at 63.3° on the lucky 13th before retreating to around 50° through the 20th. High Pressure in the northern Pacific that had been keeping cold air from infiltrating our area, retrograded, allowing cold, arctic air to plunge southward and westward through the Columbia River Gorge, suppressing readings into the mid-30s to low 40s from the 21st-25th before recovering back to the 50s to end the month.
Except for a single day below freezing on the 6th, Minimum Temperatures mostly hovered around 40° through the 20th, then dropped to near freezing or below from the 21st-26th, bottoming out with 23.0° on the 23rd.
Splitting the month in two, the Max/Min/Mean Temperatures were thus:
– 1st-14th 51.4°/38.3°/44.9°
– 15th-28th 46.6°/34.9°/40.8°
The greatest diurnal range was 23.7° on the 13th (63.3°/39.6°), the least was 4.6° on the 2nd (43.3°/38.7°)
PRECIPITATION
It was a below Normal month for rain and snow but would have been far-below Normal had it not been for the Atmospheric River that drenched the area at the end of the month. Only half of the month recorded measurable precipitation and just 1.40″ had fallen through the 26th by the 7:00 AM Observation time and there was a nice 6-day stretch with no precipitation from the 8th-13th. As the persistent rain began midday on the 27th, there was no stopping it through the end of the month and beyond, with 0.94″ accumulating by the 7:00 AM observation on the 28th. This gave a monthly total of 2.34″ at that time, with another inch-and-a-quarter falling by midnight to end the month. Snowfall was light but accumulated on 2 days, 0.1″ on the 21st and 0.5″ on the 24th, bringing the seasonal total to 9.6″.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS
Sky Cover: 6 Clear, 15 Partly Cloudy, and 7 Cloudy days.
Barometric Pressure: Average Maximum/Minimum readings were 30.39″/30.23″, with the Highest Daily Value of 30.65” on the 8th, the Lowest Daily Reading of 29.85” on the 21st.
Relative Humidity: Maximum/Minimum Averages were 92%/68%, having a Daily Maximum of 99% on the 3rd; Daily Minimum of 25% on the 11th.
Dew Point: Averages were a Maximum/Minimum of 42°/31°, with a Daily Maximum of 56° on the 28th, Daily Minimum of a very dry 7° on the 23rd.
Wind: The Daily Average Speed was 1.6 MPH and the highest Daily Average was 6.1 MPH on the 12th; the Daily Average Gust was 12.8 MPH and the Highest Gust reached 26 MPH from the SSE on the 28th.
