HAPPY VALLEY, OREGON WEATHER: OCTOBER 2021
TEMPERATURES
October 2021 was a bit topsy-turvy from normal as the first half was a tad cooler than the second half. The Average Maximum/Minimum/Mean Temperatures were thus: 1st-15th – 58.7°/45.0°/51.9°, 16th-31st – 59.0°/48.3°/53.7°. The coolest shorter period occurred from the 7th-13th when Max./Min./Mean Temperatures were 55.7°/42.0°/48.9° and also produced the month’s coolest Max and Min Temperatures (50.9° on the 13th and 35.9° on the 12th, the latter date being when we received the first frost of the season (and the only day with frost this month as no Minimum fell below 43.4° afterward). The Maximum for the month occurred on the 21st when it hit 68.2°, with a total of 13 days reaching ≥60° for October. For Minimum Temperatures, the highest was the 52.7°, also on the 21st, with a total of 24 days falling to ≤50°, with 12 of these reaching ≤45°.
PRECIPITATION
It was a relatively dry start to October with the first half of the month (1st-15th) recording measurable rain on 6 days, totaling 1.08″, the second half (16th-31st) receiving another 4.05″ on 9 days for a monthly total of 5.13″ over 16 days. The first half did have some nice, dry periods, including the 1st-4th and 6th-8th when no rain fell; the second half wasn’t as fortunate with just one period of 2 days (30th-31st) without measurable rain, otherwise not more than a single dry day. There were 8 days that recorded ≥0.25″ and 3 days ≥0.50″. The Maximum daily rainfall was the 0.97″ on the 29th (which included the Maximum Rain Rate this month of 2.15″/Hr at 0224 Hrs), followed closely by the 0.93″ on the 21st. This October precipitation total was 109% of the normal monthly average of 4.70″.

Sky Cover:
5 Clear, 12 Partly Cloudy, and 14 Cloudy days. Of the cloudy days this month, the longest stretch was the 9 consecutive days from the 20th-28th.
Barometric Pressure:
Average Maximum/Minimum readings were 30.09″/29.88″, with the Highest Daily Value of 30.32” on the 27th, the Lowest Daily Reading of 29.06” on the 17th, the lowest recorded since barometric pressure began being measured at this station on 5/30/2014.
Relative Humidity:
Maximum/Minimum Averages were 96%/75%, having a Daily Maximum of 98% on the 1st, 6th, 14th, 22nd-24th, 27th-29th; Daily Minimum of 47% on the 30th & 31st.
Dew Point:
Averages were a Maximum/Minimum of 53°/44°, with a Daily Maximum of 63° on the 28th, Daily Minimum of 29° on the 30th.
Wind:
Daily Average Speed was 1.1 MPH and the highest Daily Average Wind Speed was 4.4 MPH on the 24th & 25th; The Daily Average Gust was 12.9 MPH and the Highest Gust reached 32 MPH from the SW on the 24th.
